Minimal residual disease persists in bone marrow after adjuvant therapy

Bone marrow aspirates taken up to 4 years after surgery for primary breast cancer from women receiving adjuvant therapy contained disseminated cancer cells, according to a study from England. M.J. Slade and colleagues at the Imperial College London said, "We have previously developed a quantitative polymerase chain reaction (QPCR) technique for the detection of cytokeratin 19 (CK19) transcripts in blood and bone marrow and compared this to immunocytochemistry (ICC).
