Almost half of women with early disease experience depression and anxiety

Almost half of all women with early breast cancer experience depression or anxiety in their first year after diagnosis, researchers have found. They say more support for women with early stage breast cancer is essential. Caroline Burgess, at Cancer Research U.K.'s London Psychosocial Group at King's College, London, and colleagues published their study in the March 26, 2005, British Medical Journal (BMJ, 2005;330:702-5).
