Sexually Transmitted Infections



Late developers may run higher STI risk than sexually mature younger teens

Late developers may be more susceptible to high risk sexually transmitted infections than sexually precocious younger teens, suggests research in the journal Sexually Transmitted Infections.

Sexual maturity, rather than age at first sex, seems to be a critical factor.

Loretta Brabin, of St. Mary's Hospital, Manchester, U.K., and colleagues studied 127 young women attending three sexual health clinics. All of them had started having periods within the preceding 5 years or were aged 17 years and under.
