Glucocorticoid receptor activation protects tumor cells via MAPK inhibition

Glucocorticoid receptor (GR) activation protects breast tumor cells through MAPK inactivation.

GR activation "has recently been shown to inhibit apoptosis in breast epithelial cells," according to scientists in the United States, who "previously described a group of genes that is rapidly upregulated in these cells following dexamethasone (Dex) treatment."

In their subsequent study, conducted "to dissect the mechanisms of GR-mediated breast epithelial cell survival," W. Wu and coauthors at the University of Chicago examined "the molecular events downstream of GR activation."
