Twist and Wnt genes are highly expressed in breast cancer

The Twist and Wnt genes are highly expressed in breast cancer, which suggests they may be important factors in development of the disease, researchers say. O. Watanabe and colleagues, Tokyo Women's Medical University, wrote, "Twist, a transcription factor of the basic helix-loophelix class, has been suggested to have oncogenic properties. We reported Twist expression was regulated by Wnt/beta-catenin signaling and that both Wnt-1 and Twist could contribute to mammary tumorigenesis.
