Greater HPA axis response to stress seen in unfit women as they age

The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis response to stress in unfit women increases as they age, study results show. Tinna Traustadottir, of the Kronos Longev Research Institute in Phoenix, and colleagues at Arizona State University "tested the hypotheses that aging is associated with greater hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis reactivity to psychological stress, and whether aerobic fitness is associated with a lower HPA axis response to psychological stress."
