Seladin-1 may mediate estrogen's neuroprotective effects, suggest study findings. The observation that Alzheimer's disease is more common in postmenopausal women has led to the suggestion that estrogen therapy may be beneficial. This proposition is supported by experimental studies, mostly in animals, that demonstrated estrogen's neuroprotective effects, researchers said. S.
