Tumor cytokeratin and metallothionein expression linked to invasiveness

Differential expression of cytokeratins and metallothioneins may underlie the behavioral differences of invasive and non-invasive breast tumors.

"Invasiveness of tumor cells is often determined by the profile of their expressed genes," researchers in the United States explained.

"To determine the gene expression differences between invasive and non-invasive human breast tumor cells," M.K. Tripathi and colleagues at Meharry Medical College "selected BT-549 (invasive) and MDA-MB-468 (non-invasive) cells, and compared their transcriptomes by cDNA microarray analysis."
