Terbutaline is neurotoxic in utero and augments chlorpyrifos toxicity

In utero terbutaline exposure has neurotoxic effects, and augments subsequent chlorpyrifos (CPF)-induced neurotoxicity.

"Exposure to apparently unrelated neurotoxicants can nevertheless converge on common neurodevelopmental events," toxicologists in the United States explained.

In their study, A. Meyer and coauthors at the Duke University Medical Center "examined the long-term effects of developmental exposure of rats to terbutaline, a beta-adrenoceptor agonist used to arrest preterm labor, and the organophosphorus insecticide" CPF, both "separately and together."
