Tumors frequent in upper outer quadrant probably because there's more tissue

Breast carcinomas probably occur more frequently in the upper outer quadrant of the breast simply because there's more tissue in this area, say researchers. A.H.S. Lee and colleagues at the City Hospital of Nottingham, U.K., wrote, "The relatively high proportion of carcinomas arising in the upper outer quadrant of the breasts is argued to support the hypothesis that underarm cosmetics cause breast cancer. This study aimed to test the alternative hypothesis that the high proportion of carcinomas arising in the upper outer quadrant of the breasts is a reflection of the greater amount of breast tissue in this quadrant."
