Results of mammographic screening trial of women from age 40 reported

Oncologists in England have published "results of screening in the first 10 years of a randomized trial to study the effect on breast cancer mortality of invitation to annual mammography from age 40 to 41 compared to first invitation to the 3-yearly U.K. national program at age 50-52."

The trial is ongoing at 23 National Health Service (NHS) breast screening centers in the U.K., the researchers said. The study aims to inform the debate about the effectiveness of screening by mammography in women below age 50.
