Genital abnormalities found in some nursing rat pups exposed to tamoxifen

Scientists at Japan's Chemical Evaluation and Research Institute have observed genital abnormalities in rat pups exposed to higher doses of tamoxifen in utero and by breastfeeding. "Pregnant CD (SD) IGS rats were given tamoxifen (TMX) orally at doses of 0.12, 0.6, or 3 mcg/kg/day from gestational day 6 to postnatal day 21, and the effects of TMX exposure on all offspring were examined 10 weeks after birth; the reproductive performance of the offspring was also evaluated," reported K.
