Investigators in the United States and Italy have published new osteoporosis data. Study 1: A study by Michigan State University physiologists found the effect of unloading on trabecular bone in women with spinal cord injury was greater than that of estrogen loss in middle-aged ambulatory women. "The prevalence of osteoporosis is high among postmenopausal women and individuals sustaining a spinal cord injury (SCI).
