Imatinib mesylate monotherapy used to treat metastatic breast cancer

Imatinib mesylate monotherapy has undergone phase II trial for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer.

According to published research from the United States, "Imatinib mesylate is a potent inhibitor of Abl, KIT, and PDGFR tyrosine kinases. Breast cancer has variable expression of KIT and PDGFR therefore we conducted a phase II trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of imatinib in patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC)."
