Radiotherapy in lateral decubitus position limits lung and heart irradiation

Breast radiotherapy in the lateral decubitus position limits lung and heart irradiation, according to a report from France.

Almost 10 years ago, scientists at the Curie Institute developed a breast radiotherapy technique that limits lung and heart irradiation and satisfies quality assurance criteria.

The method has been used in routine practice and some 500 patients have been treated thus far, reported F. Campana and colleagues.

Isocentric breast irradiation is performed with the patient in the lateral decubitus position (isocentric lateral decubitus [ILD]).
