Most African American women at risk for BRCA1/2 mutations wouldn't be tested

While African American women at risk for BRCA1 and/or BRCA2 gene mutations tend to have a positive attitude toward genetic testing, most wouldn't pursue being tested themselves, according to findings of a small study.

University of Pennsylvania researchers in psychiatry conducted their study "to evaluate attitudes about the benefits, limitations, and risks of genetic testing for BRCA1 and BRCA2 (BRCA1/2) mutations and explore testing intentions in African American women at increased risk for hereditary breast cancer."
