Studies describe new findings in osteoporosis research

Investigators in Turkey, the United States and Belgium have published new osteoporosis data. Study 1: The number of pregnancies and/or abortions a woman has had can increase her risk of osteoporosis, a study has found. F. Ozdemir and colleagues, Trakya University, Edirne, Turkey, wrote, "Osteoporosis has been defined as a metabolic bone disease characterized by a loss of bone mineral density (BMD) greater than 2.5 standard deviations below young adult peak bone mass or the presence of fracture.
