Breast tumor's biological traits guide hormone therapy

The characteristics of an individual patient's breast cancer can help physicians choose the most effective treatment sequence with tamoxifen and the newer aromatase inhibitors, according to a study led by researchers from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The findings were presented in a poster session at the American Society of Clinical Oncology's annual meeting on May 15, 2005. Tamoxifen has been used for many years to reduce the risk of recurrence in women following breast cancer treatment.
