Catamenial Pneumothorax
GnRH agonists and pleural symphysis augmentation recommended for treatment

Thoracic surgeons at Georgetown University Hospital recommend the use of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists before or after surgery in women at high risk for catamenial pneumothorax, as well as intervention to augment pleural symphysis at the level of the diaphragm. Catamenial pneumothorax refers to the presence of free air or gas in the pleural cavity occurring during menstruation, primarily in younger women.
