Recent studies add new data to osteoporosis research

Investigators in the United States and Japan have published new osteoporosis data. Study 1: An alpha(V)beta(3) integrin antagonist, L-000845704, has an antiresorptive effect on bone, the results of which are seen in increased lumbar bone mineral density, a Merck Research Laboratories study shows. The researchers suggest L-000845704 has potential as an antiosteoporosis drug. According to M.G. Murphy and colleagues, "The alpha(V)beta(3) integrin (vitronectin receptor) plays a pivotal role in bone resorption.
