Asthma and hay fever linked to irregular periods

Asthma and hay fever seem to be linked to irregular menstrual cycles, suggest results of a large study.

The finding adds weight to evidence suggesting that female hormones might have a role in the development of asthma and allergies.

The study was published May 25, 2005, in the journal Thorax by an international group of researchers hailing from Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Estonia. The first author on the study is Cecilie Svanes, University of Bergen (Association of asthma and hay fever with irregular menstruation. Thorax, 2005;60:445-60).
