New data confirm early start of anastrozole may prevent breast cancer recurrence

Today, the crucial benefits of using Arimidex (anastrozole) to help postmenopausal women continue to live free from breast cancer, were confirmed by the data from the ATAC (Arimidex, tamoxifen, alone or in combination) trial, presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting, in Orlando, Florida. By comparing the real-life outcomes of women in this trial, who took either anastrozole or tamoxifen for 5 years following surgery for early breast cancer, it was shown that starting treatment with anastrozole can prevent many of the breast cancer recurrences that would otherwise occur if treated with tamoxifen.
