Reports advance knowledge in cervical cancer research

Reports from the Germany; katja_lindel@med, Japan and United States highlight recent research on cervical cancer.

Study 1: A patient's human papillomavirus status is a prognostic indicator of outcome of radiation treatment for cervical cancer, study data show.

"Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection plays a major role in oncogenesis of squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix. This study was performed to investigate if HPV status and E2 gene integrity are prognostic parameters for clinical outcome and predictive for radiation response," wrote Katja Lindel and colleagues, University of Berne, Bern, Switzerland.
