Recent studies add new data to atherosclerosis research

Investigators in the People's Republic of China, Australia and United States have published new atherosclerosis data. Study 1: The menopausal drug tibolone is associated with upregulated expression of estrogen and low density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors, whereas simvastatin isn't, shows an analysis of a study conducted in rabbits. "After menopause women are more susceptible to coronary heart disease due to increased risk of atherosclerosis. Tibolone (Livial) is an innovative synthetic steroid analogue for the treatment of postmenopausal climacteric symptoms including atherosclerosis, but the mechanisms of its effect are still unclear," said Y.L.
