Study 1: Prevalence of osteoporosis, as detected by quantitative ultrasound at the calcaneus, is "noteworthy" among a population of women in and around Hanoi, Vietnam.
T.T.H. Vu and colleagues, University of Tokushima, Japan, conducted a population-based, cross-sectional survey in 2003 of 2,232 adult women aged {{>=}}20 years, living in Hanoi City, to determine the prevalence of osteoporosis and related factors. The women had no known illnesses affecting their bone metabolism, the researchers said.
