Referral bias underlies putative gender differences in the symptoms of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). According to recent research from the United States, results from previous a study indicated that, compared with referred boys with ADHD, "girls are less likely to manifest comorbid disruptive behavior disorders and learning disabilities - characteristics that could adversely affect identification of ADHD in girls."
