Treatment regimen associated with higher incidence of febrile neutropenia

Oncologists in France have reported a treatment regimen of adjuvant doxorubicin plus docetaxel for intermediate-risk breast cancer was associated with a higher incidence of adverse effects, including febrile neutropenia and one death from sepsis, than the doxorubicin-cyclophosphamide regimen.

"Adjuvant chemotherapy with new cytotoxic agents for breast cancer must be properly assessed for toxicity," said E.G.C. Brain and colleagues, Rene Huguenin Cancer Center, St. Cloud, France, who described the "adverse events associated with adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer, which led to premature termination of a clinical trial."
