Researchers publish new studies and findings in the area of obstetrics

New findings from the United States and Scotland describe advances in obstetrics. Study 1: New D-dimer thresholds per trimester needed to detect venous thromboembolism in normal pregnancy, say emergency medicine specialists in a recent issue of Clinical Chemistry. J.A. Kline and colleagues, Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, North Carolina, said, "Pregnancy is known to increase the D-dimer concentration above the conventional normal threshold of 0.50 mg/L, leading to an increased false-positive D-dimer test when venous thromboembolism (VTE) is clinically suspected in a pregnant patient.
