Texas to require insurers to cover HPV testing for cervical cancer screening

Texas has become the third state to enact legislation requiring insurers to cover testing for the human papillomavirus (HPV) as part of cervical cancer screening for women age 30 and older, reinforcing the test's emerging role as a standard of care, Digene Corporation (DIGE) announced. The Texas legislation, introduced by State Rep. Senfronia Thompson, stipulates that HPV testing be covered in accordance with American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists guidelines and will go into effect January 1, 2006.
