Anal incontinence improved with surgical repair

Separate surgical repairs of internal and external anal sphincter improve anal incontinence in women with obstetric tears. Researchers in Norway report that "obstetric sphincter tears lead to anal incontinence in 40 to 60%of affected women. Primary repair is usually performed without identifying the internal anal sphincter." According to S. Norderval and coworkers, University Hospital of North Norway, "Since 1999 digestive surgeons have participated in the primary repair of such tears at our hospital.
