Pain and discomfort associated with mammography discourages African-America women from breast cancer screening. A study from the United States indicates that, "African-American women have lower rates of breast cancer screening than Caucasian women. Discomfort during mammography may deter women from rescreening." According to M.A. Papas and colleagues, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, "Research to date has focused primarily on Caucasian women.
