Brief intervention with a partner can modify prenatal alcohol consumption.

Researchers in the United States have conducted a randomized trial "To test the effectiveness of a brief intervention in the reduction of prenatal alcohol consumption by women when a partner is included."

According to principal investigator G. Chang and colleagues, Brigham and Women's Hospital, "the brief intervention was given in a single session by the study nurse or principal investigator for 304 pregnant women and their partners."
