Lilly pays $1.6 million with initiation of phase 2 trial on athersclerosis drug

Ligand Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (LGNDE) has earned a $1.6 million milestone payment from Eli Lilly and company (LLY) with Lilly's initiation of phase 2 studies on LY674, a novel peroxisome proliferation activated receptor (PPAR) modulator for the treatment of atherosclerosis. LY674 was discovered pursuant to the research collaboration agreement between Lilly and Ligand. Atherosclerosis is the hardening and narrowing of the arteries caused by the slow buildup of plaque on the inside of walls of the arteries.
