5-DFUR and tamoxifen affected cytotoxicity in human mammary carcinoma cells
August 18th, 2005
5-deoxy-5-fluorouridine (5-DFUR) and tamoxifen (TAM) showed cell-type specific antagonistic and cooperative effects on cytotoxicity in breast cancer cells. "The effect of Tam and 5-DFUR cotreatment on cytotoxicity was assessed in various cancer-derived cell lines. Each cell line was treated with a range of Tam and 5-DFUR concentrations alone and in combination," scientists in the United States reported. "The cell lines we examined include MDA-MB-231 [ER alpha-/ER beta+], T47D [ER alpha+/ER beta+], and three MCF-7 [ER alpha+/ER beta+] sublines. Cell growth was assessed by MTT assay at multiple time points for up to 9 days. Fluorescence-associated cell...
