Cosmetic outcome of sentinel node biopsy compared to lymph node dissection

The cosmetic outcome of sentinel node (SN) biopsy was compared to axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) for use as breast conserving treatment (BCT). "Next to locoregional control, good cosmetic outcome is one of the main goals of BCT for breast cancer surgery. Factors affecting cosmetic outcome are well known," scientists in the Netherlands reported. "The SN procedure avoids lymphedema in the breast, which might influence cosmetic outcome.
