Bone mineral density test helps determine osteoporosis treatment strategy

A bone mineral density test (BMD) is very useful to help determine osteoporosis treatment strategy.

"Bone densitometry is one of the most frequently used investigations in the assessment and management of patients suspected to have osteoporosis," states S.H. Ralston, writing in the journal Best Practice & Research in Clinical Rheumatology. "The current method of choice for measuring BMD is dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, because of its high precision and low radiation dose."
