Evaluating primary cell cultures from malignant pleural effusions could aid brain metastases therapy. According to recent research from Germany, "15-30% of breast cancer patients develop central nervous system (CNS) metastases. The most potent drugs for the treatment of breast cancer like taxanes, anthracyclines, and trastuzumab have limited efficacy for brain metastases."
