Health organization joins Cancer Alliance Bioinformatics Consortium

Some patients at Geisinger Health System will soon be able to contribute a piece of themselves - literally - to cancer research. Geisinger has joined the Pennsylvania Cancer Alliance Bioinformatics Consortium, a collaborative dedicated to reducing the burden of cancer on the citizens of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania by collecting, analyzing, and sharing tissue sample information among cancer researchers. Geisinger patients undergoing biopsies for certain types of cancer will soon be asked if they would like to donate leftover tissue from their biopsies to the Geisinger Biospecimen Bank.
