Reports advance knowledge in cardiology research

Reports from the United States and South Korea highlight recent research on cardiology. Study 1: Recently, researchers from Dallas' Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine tested the hypothesis that women have blunted sympathetic neural responses to orthostatic stress compared with men, which may be elicited under hypovolemic conditions. They measured muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) and hemodynamics in 8 healthy young women and 7 men in supine position and during 6 minutes of 60 degrees head-up tilt (HUT) under normovolemic and hypovolemic conditions (randomly), with approximately 4-week interval.
