Avenues of support for women diagnosed with breast cancer explored

Avenues of support for women diagnosed with breast cancer were explored in a study from the California Pacific Medical Center. Researchers from the United States report, "The diagnosis of cancer is a traumatic experience, which may result in post-traumatic stress symptoms, such as arousal, re-experiencing the diagnostic process and avoidance." They assessed "Changes in post-traumatic symptoms in 181 women with breast cancer who participated in either a standard support group or complementary/alternative (CAM) oriented intervention." "At baseline 26 women were classified as having significant PTSD symptoms," explained E. G. Levine and colleagues....
