Radio-guided occult lesion localization is feasible alternative to wire-guided lumpectomy

Investigators compared radio-guided occult lesion localization (ROLL) to wire-guided lumpectomy (WGL) for the treatment of occult breast lesions and found ROLL a feasible alternative. "Mammographic screening increases the number of impalpable breast cancers requiring surgical excision. It is important to optimize the localization technique to remove the smallest amount of tissue, still adequately excising the lesion," researchers in England reported.
