Study shows digital mammography increases breast cancer detection

Results of a major new government study show that digital mammography significantly increases breast cancer detection for women who are under 50, premenopausal or who have dense breasts. For all other women, the newer technology was shown to be equivalent in accuracy to traditional, film-screen mammography. The study of 42,760 women was conducted by the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) and was funded by the U.S. National Cancer Institute.
