Micronutrient supplementation increases birth weight but not perinatal mortality in a study performed by investigators in Denmark. "To assess the effects of daily prenatal multimicronutrient supplementation on birth weight (BW) and perinatal mortality," researchers conducted a "randomized, controlled, double masked trial" in urban Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. P. Kaestel and colleagues recruited "A total of 2100 pregnant women (22±7 weeks pregnant at entry) through antenatal clinics, of which 1670 (79.5%) completed the trial.
