Intramuscular tramodol provides effective pain relief during delivery and is renally excreted by the neonate. The aim of a recent study published in the European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology "was to investigate the pharmacokinetic profile of tramadol hydrochloride in neonates, born from mothers who underwent analgesia with tramadol for the relief of labor pain." H. L. Claahsen-van der Grinten and colleagues reported, "Intramuscular tramadol (100-250 mg) was administered to 22 mothers giving birth who requested pain relief.
