Cesarean section with concomitant aortic repair is a promising treatment strategy for pregnant Marfan syndrome patients with acute type A aortic dissection. For Marfan patients, "acute type A aortic dissection during pregnancy can be fatal to both the mother and the fetus," according to surgeons in Japan, who evaluated the "prevalence, treatment and outcomes of this dangerous condition in an effort to determine optimal management."
