Further studies are needed to address the role of estrogen receptor beta in breast cancer

A multicenter investigation aimed at reaching a consensus on the immunohistochemical detection of estrogen receptor (ER) beta in archival formalin-fixed paraffin embedded human breast tissue determined that further studies are needed. According to a study from England, "ER alpha is a well-established independent prognostic factor in breast cancer whose presence determines the clinical implications of adjuvant endocrine therapy. A second receptor, ER beta has been described, and a number of studies have examined its expression in breast tissue."
