Breast cancer research advances have been reported from the United States and South Korea. Study 1: HER-2/neu amplifications status by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) can be accurately and reliably evaluated in archival specimens. Researchers in the United States conducted a study "to assess the usefulness of FISH for HER-2/neu amplification of breast carcinoma in archival fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) specimens. All FISH performed on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded surgical specimens during January 2003-August 2003 at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center were selected.
