Anthracyclines plus fluoropyrimidines were well tolerated and active in advanced breast cancer (ABC) patients. "The efficacy and safety of prolonged fluoropyrimidines, either intravenously or orally, prompted their integration with taxanes and anthracyclines in the treatment of ABC.
