Cytokines secreted by bone-metastatic breast cancer cells alter the expression pattern of f-actin and reduce focal adhesion plaques in osteoblasts through PI3K.

According to a study from the United States, "Breast cancer frequently metastasizes to bone, resulting in osteolytic lesions. These lesions, formed by activated osteoclasts, cause pain, an increased susceptibility to fractures, and hypercalcemia."
