Multiple re-excisions in breast cancer linked to higher risk of local recurrence

Breast cancer patients who have undergone multiple re-excisions before obtaining clear lumpectomy margins were associated with a higher risk of local recurrence. "Microscopically clear lumpectomy margins are critical for optimizing local control with breast conservation for cancer. Re-excisions are often necessary to achieve clear surgical margins," scientists in the United States reported.
